Porsche's masterpiece. Enjoy the precious final air-cooled model to the fullest! Suggestion

The last air-cooled model of the 911 series, the 993- the fourth generation.

The last air-cooled model from Porsche, which has been developing air-cooled engines for as long as its history, is one of the masterpieces of Porsche Engineering, which has always been seeking the best, and even created the phrase “air-cooled bubble”. series. With the mystical and sensual sound that only an air-cooled flat-six can produce after 5,000 rpm, the rigid and compact body accelerates with a “massive mass squared” feeling that is both good and bad, until this model, the design that became the last 911 format, while inheriting the DNA. It is a famous car that is highly praised by air-cooled fans all over the world as a model that truly sublimates the 911 design, with the exception of the roofline, which was all redesigned and renewed.

The animalistic form that has been extended to the point where it can be mistaken for the turbo look of the past is the final form in which the air-cooled rear engine has evolved. As a result of swallowing the large silencer system under the “full” rear fender to match the modern environment with the “sound” of air-cooling, and the multi-link suspension to deeply enjoy the behavior of the Porsche, which was rear-heavy and only some enthusiasts were able to show their full potential. This design was born. When you wash this car with your bare hands, you will understand the design of the body, the flat glass surface, and the flat fenders that were made possible by the use of polyepoxide headlights. This German-made industrial product is truly a masterpiece of artistic beauty and craftsmanship.

This last air-cooled model was released 27 years ago, for six years from 1993 to 1998, but after the release of the later water-cooled model, ironically, it was the model that gained worldwide popularity. You can clearly see that it is an industrial product full of craftsmanship that Porsche put its prestige on the world as the last air-cooled model.

Fulfilling the Supremacy Mind The "Porsche with Tiptronic S" Option

One of the joys of interviewing people for the Supremacy is that I get to meet some of the wonderful owners of these unique and wonderful cars. I have personally researched that many of the owners of these cars are using domestic (or foreign) cars for everyday use. The actual fact is that the heavy clutch is hard to handle, in traffic jams it’s tough to have air conditioning and automatic transmission, and you can’t even stop at a convenience store with a hobby car because of the steps between the sidewalk. Porsche has always been an all-around sports car, grab the steering wheel and step on the gas pedal and before you know it you’ll be in the mood, overcoming convenience store bumps without a care in the world, you can go from the highway to the winding and even the circuit! It’s an all-rounder that will allow you to do things that Italian supercars can never do. What I felt when I drove the Porsche Tiptronic S for the first time in a long time after the owner said “by all means” was exactly the phrase “all-purpose supercar that can stop by a convenience store” that satisfies 100% of the needs of a supremacist with many worries. Owners with an artistic appreciation

In the garage, there is a collection of gems that shine like jewels, and the owner enjoys them as if he were admiring a painting. This 993 with the beautiful RS look of the Tiptronic S was also a practical vehicle for such an owner. As mentioned above, it was the last air-cooled 911 model and the owner wanted to keep it as a collection for a long time, but due to various reasons, he was forced to liquidate his garage and decided to let it go.

As you can see in the photos, it is in very good condition, with only the inevitable stepping stone marks on the front and the acrylic on the rear garnish. The car has just over 100,000km on the odometer, which translates to about 60,000 miles, so it’s a car that’s “just getting started” in overseas markets. Although it has been 25 years since its release as of the time of the interview, it is a vehicle with a very clean image that gives a good impression with almost no age-related changes, and I felt that it is an individual that has been loved in a very happy environment.

postscript

The owner kindly allowed me to wash the 993 before the photo shoot, and then I drove to the shooting location. I stroked the surface with a small amount of water to avoid scratches and touched it carefully with a wet cloth. I couldn’t help but admire the fender shapes, the thickness of the panels, and the feel of the aforementioned flat glass surface and body surface. I could not help but marvel at the high level of manufacturing precision. I twisted the key and idled the engine… The dry but gentle 993 air-cooled sound was clearly different from the air-cooled sound I had heard in the past, and it was a gentle image that matched the modern era, yet it was definitely that “wonderful air-cooled sound. When I closed the door with a “click” and put myself in the tight and classic Porsche interior (I actually love it!) The sensation of driving… The sensation of stepping into the car a little bit… It occupied about 50% of my brain, and even a few days after the interview, it has become something that I still can’t get rid of. Is this the magic of the Porsche 993? It’s been more than a decade since I’ve thought about getting a narrow car someday, but I found myself wondering if I could persuade my AT-only wife to casually drive the last air-cooled model with Tiptronic. The last air-cooled model of the Tiptronic S….

This wonderful car is currently located in Tokyo.
