The unique fusion of big torque American V8 power and top-of-the-line luxury... the Cadillac Escalade ESV
Standing still, it exudes an extraordinary overwhelming presence…
Beneath the engine hood lies the newly developed and adopted all-aluminum block 6162cc VORTEC V8 engine, exclusive to the third generation, which boasts a remarkable 409PS (at 5700rpm) and an extraordinary torque of 57.6kgm (at 4300rpm). This immense power is seamlessly transmitted to all four wheels through the refined technology of electronically controlled full-time 4WD, balancing according to road conditions. When this 3-ton vehicle starts to move, it does so effortlessly, propelled by an overwhelming surge of power!
This unique sensation of acceleration, which “increases with the square of the mass,” is something that can only be experienced with a heavyweight vehicle, unlike the light-bodied ones. This is the essence of the “Big Torque Syndrome” – once you experience it, you become addicted to it. This distinctive sensation lingers in your mind, making driving smaller-displacement vehicles utterly uninteresting, no matter how appealing they may be.
Indeed, the Cadillac Escalade ESV embodies the perfect fusion of big torque American V8 power and top-tier luxury. It absorbs this big torque with its delicately designed chassis, offering a surprisingly nimble driving experience despite its large size. As the flagship of Cadillac, the epitome of American wealth, the third-generation Cadillac Escalade has been crafted into a full-size, top-of-the-line luxury SUV, showcasing an unparalleled worldview.
The Cadillac Escalade, manufactured by General Motors and sold under the luxury division Cadillac, is a U.S. standard full-size luxury SUV…
The term “Escalade” refers to a military tactic of scaling defensive walls or fortifications using ladders, reflecting the aspirations of Wayne Cherry, a renowned American designer and a candidate for Car Designer of the Century, for the ultimate luxury SUV. The Escalade ESV (Escalade Stretch Vehicle), with its dynamic long body, further expands the appeal of the Escalade as the ultimate full-size luxury SUV, boasting unparalleled power, seating capacity, cargo capacity, and towing capacity.
The Escalade not only impresses with its dynamic exterior design but also excels in functionality, featuring an electronically controlled stability control system called “Stabilitrak,” which efficiently transfers power to all four wheels, HID low-beam headlights, power-adjustable pedals, and turn signal mirrors. The interior is adorned with luxurious features such as leather-trimmed seats, a wood and leather-wrapped steering wheel with audio controls, cruise control, a 14-way power-adjustable front seat memory system, a BOSE premium sound system, rear AV control unit, power liftgate, and power retractable running boards, among others.
Moreover, the powertrain of this third-generation Escalade from 2007 boasts an all-aluminum 6.2L Vortec V8 engine, the first of its kind in the industry with variable valve timing for intake and exhaust, delivering an astonishing output of 403PS and a maximum torque of 57.6kgm. Paired with a newly developed 6-speed 6L80 automatic transmission and a sophisticated electronic 4WD system, it precisely transmits the abundant power to all four wheels according to driving conditions.
And when you actually drive it…
Despite its large body, the Escalade demonstrates exceptional maneuverability and is easy to handle even on Japanese roads, where you won’t feel its size as much as you’d expect. This is largely due to the adoption of a new full-box frame with 49% increased torsional rigidity from 2007, along with a redesigned rack and pinion steering system, which achieves a remarkably short 8.5m turning radius compared to its predecessors. This outstanding handling dynamics and refined ride comfort give the Escalade ESV its allure.
Enamored by its dynamic body design measuring 5.64m in length, commanding the 409 horsepower feels exhilarating, and the luxurious interior ensures absolute comfort. The sturdy chassis offers a solid feel, responsive and precise control, making the Escalade ESV a luxury SUV that’s truly enjoyable to drive.
This unwavering ride comfort and luxurious sensation define the greatest allure of the Escalade ESV!
Since its debut, the Escalade has been popular among various celebrities, including professional athletes, X gamers, and pop stars. Its popularity transcends its class, and as the Cadillac Escalade evolves with time, it ascends to an even more glamorous existence.
I want to ride in the largest SUV with nobody else aboard...!" The aspirations of the young owner led them to the 2007 third-generation Escalade ESV. "If I can ride in the top-of-the-line luxury SUV at this price, then I'm ready to embrace the Big Torque Syndrome!
The owner and their family are enthusiasts in every sense…
Deeply knowledgeable about the various flavors of cars, the eldest son of the family, who has learned the art of appreciating cars, was actively enjoying the 2007 Cadillac Escalade ESV. As they indulged in their hobby of outdoor life, naturally gravitating towards four-wheel-drive vehicles, they had owned several domestic SUVs like the Toyota HiLux Surf over the years. However, the desire to ride in a larger, American full-size SUV that nobody else had driven persisted, leading them to the Cadillac Escalade. And above all, it was the allure of the ESV’s long body that captivated them.
Continuously searching for a well-maintained unit, they were finally introduced to this 2007 model by an acquaintance in the car business. Currently fitted with 18-inch studless tires that convey a robust image, the imagery of the vehicle with its included 24-inch aluminum wheels and low-profile tires, as shown in the last photo, exudes even more luxury.
Over approximately two years and 30,000 kilometers of ownership, they were asked, “What was it like to actually own it?” Their immediate response was, “Oh, it was incredibly enjoyable!” The Escalade ESV’s extraordinary, attention-grabbing presence attracted attention wherever they went, and they thoroughly enjoyed the allure of the luxury SUV.
During their ownership, there were no major issues, but they encountered minor troubles such as the left rear door outer handle detaching due to fastener degradation, replacing the front marker lens, repairing the right mirror after a parking lot incident, and replacing the front driveshaft boot due to tearing. All of these issues have been addressed. While they have disabled the switch on the console for inconvenience during entry and exit, they don’t mind much. As for the electrically retractable running board on the left driver’s side, as seen in the video, it operates as intended, but the motor on the right side running board moves without opening. Additionally, minor points such as the grommet missing from the rotating part of the right captain’s seat in the second row and one fin missing from the air conditioning outlet directly above it were noted, although they don’t affect usability. Furthermore, as depicted in the photos, there are signs of clear coat peeling on the front door sashes.
Currently registered as a Class 1 vehicle (cargo vehicle registration) for easier tax maintenance, the vehicle’s capacity is stated as four passengers on the registration document, as the third-row seats are removed for inspections.
As expected of a flagship Cadillac vehicle, the air conditioning works excellently even in scorching heat, the seat coolers are very convenient, and the heaters, including seat heaters, work comfortably in winter. The ride quality is top-notch in any environment, allowing them to fully enjoy the highest level of luxury.
During the photo shoot and video recording session with the owner’s cooperation, the owner repeatedly exclaimed, “It’s a great car, isn’t it?” It was evident that the owner held this Escalade ESV in high regard and took great care of it, including its storage environment. The robust 409PS ride through the suburbs, resembling a luxurious cruiser, is evident from the featured driving video, so please be sure to check it out.
