This is it – the car that signifies a true upward turn in life! With its fully original interior and exterior, and a remarkably fresh driving experience, this 2000 The Last Mini Cooper 1300 40th Anniversary LTD is truly the last Mini Cooper we want to preserve for future generations!

“He’s been a true car enthusiast since his younger days…

Starting with a Hakosuka Skyline during his student years, this remarkably gentlemanly owner has an extensive history of beloved cars.

He views cars as “partners that enrich life,” sincerely cherishing each one. Furthermore, he actively pursues the joy of life by participating in renowned rallies both domestically and internationally almost every year with his 1957 MGA! Recently, he’s been meticulously restoring a 1968 Jaguar E-Type Sr1-1/2 DHC to his own taste, preparing it for his next rally challenge – a true enthusiast!

This time, I received a request for coverage from this very owner, to whom I’ve been indebted for a long time…

What appeared before me was a dazzling sight: a Brooklands Green body with white bonnet stripes, and the radiant “Cooper” logo on the double side stripes emphatically asserting itself – the last of the classic Minis, a “2000 Rover Mini Cooper 1300 40th Anniversary LTD”!

“You only live once… I want to drive that car I’ve longed for since my student days, now more than ever!” These were his thoughts a few years ago when he began searching for a classic Mini.

“Now that I have a discerning eye for cars, if I’m going to own one, I want a top-condition model with fully functioning air conditioning, even if it costs a bit more.” He searched extensively online and came across IR: Eel, a famous Mini specialist in Tokyo. He fell in love at first sight with the exceptional condition of this particular car, which had just arrived and hadn’t even been priced yet. Even without knowing the price, the anecdote goes that he decided on the spot, “I’ll take this Mini!”

After waiting six months for delivery… the owner finally began his blissful life with this The Last Mini Cooper, which had been meticulously maintained and shone like new.

For the next four years or so… while providing meticulous maintenance, the owner drove this Mini Cooper almost every day, to and from the company he runs with his family, and even for picking up his grandchildren – showering his beloved Mini with affection daily.

When asked about any troubles he’d experienced, he simply replied, “I ran out of gas once (laughs), but I’ve had absolutely no problems otherwise.”

This particular car, which has undergone thorough preventative maintenance at every inspection, was in excellent condition at the time of the interview. Despite being one of the newer classic Minis… it was so remarkably fresh in its interior, exterior, and driving feel that it completely belied its 25 years of history, captivating anyone who drove it.

Looking at the service records, the details of the preventative maintenance performed at each inspection are as follows…

  • July 2009: Engine oil change, oil filter change, coolant change, brake & clutch fluid change, rocker cover gasket replacement, vacuum hose replacement, spark plug replacement, clutch release assembly replacement, greasing, valve clearance check, etc.
  • July 2011: Engine oil change, oil filter change, coolant change, brake & clutch fluid change, clutch master cylinder cap replacement, clevis pin replacement, rack boot set replacement, vacuum hose replacement, greasing, valve clearance check, etc.

…and so on.

“I really don’t want to let it go… but I need to organize my growing collection of cars and garage… Actually, my granddaughter recently got her driver’s license – I made sure she got a manual license – and I tried to pass this Mini down to her… She drove it a few times, but you know… she said she prefers a modern, small car and has already made a reservation for one (laughs). So, it’s truly regrettable, but I’ve decided to part with this Mini…”

These were the owner’s “unavoidable circumstances.”

Released in 1999 from the Longbridge plant in the UK with a limited run of only 1000 units worldwide, 25 years have already passed, making well-maintained examples of this last high-end limited edition incredibly valuable.

Before my eyes was this “2000 Rover Mini Cooper 1300 40th Anniversary LTD” – a truly fresh last classic Mini, meticulously maintained under the care of a discerning owner, with a superb presence. As I looked at it, I murmured to myself, “You see a lot of classic Minis, but you rarely see one in such excellent condition…”

Touched by the owner’s gentle gaze always directed at his beloved car and his heartfelt pride in it, I deeply felt, “This… I can understand why he doesn’t want to let it go…”

It was truly a memorable interview that resonated deeply within me.”

The Rover Mini Cooper 1300 40th Anniversary LTD, with a limited worldwide release of 1000 units in 1999 to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the Mini's birth in 1959 – it was a car like this...!

As many of you reading this are well aware, the “Mini,” conceived by the ingenious engineer Sir Alec Issigonis amidst a period of hardship, stands as a monumental compact car in automotive history, representing the 20th century…

Born in 1959 by the British Motor Corporation (BMC) in the UK, the Mini continued production for nearly 40 years with its fundamental design largely unchanged. Sir Alec Issigonis’s unique design remains unparalleled even half a century later… and this undeniable, supreme truth: “It never fails to bring a smile to your face when you drive it!” The direct feel from its wheels positioned at the four corners, combined with the go-kart-like handling characteristic of the Mini, makes it a beloved icon worldwide even a quarter of a century after the last one rolled off the production line…

To commemorate the 40th anniversary of the Mini’s birth in 1959, a special edition model, the “Rover Mini Cooper 1300 40th Anniversary LTD,” was released worldwide in 1999 with a limited production of just 1000 units.

This model inherited the history and spirit of the Mini, a truly special creation befitting its role as the final model of a legendary classic car, filled with particular attention to detail in every aspect… This model further emphasized the sporty image of the Mini Cooper, which had achieved great success in racing, while incorporating classic details in its interior and exterior, making it a commemorative existence that fused tradition and modernism…

The body colors available at the time were a choice of two… the refined Brooklands Green, reminiscent of classic British cars and the color of this particular vehicle, and Solar Red… Both were paired with a white roof and door mirrors, a two-tone contrast characteristic of the Mini Cooper that evoked its racing heritage…

The engine hood features the familiar bonnet stripes beloved by enthusiasts… and the body sides are adorned with white double pinstripes and the “Cooper” logo… The rear proudly displays a “MINI COOPER” logo decal, a welcome feature that firmly inherits the style of the classic Cooper… Furthermore, a special enamel 40th-anniversary badge was adopted as an emblem… The grille is an 8-slat Mk-II style, and it comes standard with two fog lamps, meticulously creating a powerful image…

Embodying the sporting spirit of the Mini Cooper, the chassis features 13-inch 8-spoke aluminum wheels paired with wide and low-profile 175/50R13 tires. The distinctly wide and characteristic special over fenders give this final limited Cooper model a truly aggressive stance!

Of course, the driving experience is also remarkably refined, with a KONI sports suspension featuring dampers… It achieves a truly supple cornering performance and modern comfort, making it equally adept at navigating city streets and tackling your favorite winding roads – a genuinely enjoyable drive!

The interior, among other features… is characterized by a space that truly embodies British elegance and a sense of the special… The seats feature “vertical fluting” in black leather… creating a remarkably classic and upscale atmosphere…

And… perhaps the most significant feature of this final limited Cooper model is undoubtedly its dashboard design! This is the “polished alloy fascia panel,” exuding a rich, burnished metal surface, a modern recreation of the style favored by the “cafe racers” of British culture, beautifully expressing a complete fusion of classic and modern elements…

The audio system comes standard with a genuine CD deck, and the rear bulkhead houses twin speakers made by the renowned British manufacturer Goodmans! The white-faced triple round meters proudly display a special “MINI40” logo in the center.

The detailed specifications of this particular vehicle are as follows…

Model Code: E-XN12A Overall Length × Width × Height: 307cm × 153cm × 133cm Transmission: 4-speed manual (4MT) Displacement: 1275cc Horsepower: 62ps / 5700rpm Torque: 9.6 kgm / 3900rpm

2000 Rover Mini Cooper 1300 40th Anniversary LTD... Post-interview notes...

The owner mentioned, with a touch of regret, “…I slightly scraped the left rear fender just once when putting it in the garage.” Upon inspection, there was indeed a shallow scratch that looked like it could be easily buffed out with compound or polishing.

The areas around the door outer handles, where hands frequently touch, certainly showed the patina of years, but they were at a level that would be perfectly fine after a good polish.

More than just that patina, the entire car was beautiful… Even the rain gutters on the roof, where rainwater flows, were remarkably pristine. Its dignified presence was wonderful – truly a beautiful, quintessential last Mini Cooper.

Thanks to the owner’s kindness, I had the opportunity to drive it during the video shoot, and the impression was even more refreshing from behind the wheel! Contrary to what one might expect from a classic Mini Cooper, it felt surprisingly modern. The fact that it was already 25 years old at the time of the interview completely slipped my mind. I couldn’t help but think, “This is really good!”… It was a car that undeniably brought a smile to my face.

“I really don’t want to let it go…” That was the owner’s true feeling…

Reflecting on the blissful time spent with this classic Mini Cooper since encountering this striking example, it will likely only be upon meeting a new owner who will truly cherish it that the current owner will wholeheartedly decide, “If it’s this person…” to part with it.

This valuable last classic Mini Cooper, imbued with the current owner’s belief that “a car is a partner that enriches life” and the “time” they have invested, will undoubtedly become a “life-enhancing classic Mini Cooper” for its next owner, significantly coloring their life.

This is truly a car that elevates life! This remarkably fresh, all-original inside and out – including its driving feel – 2000 The Last Mini Cooper 1300 40th Anniversary LTD is the last Mini Cooper we want to preserve for future generations!

We conduct thorough interviews with current owners to gather detailed information, including past maintenance records and repair history, as well as any accident history. We decline interviews if there is a history of major accidents or if the current owner’s ownership period is extremely short and details are unclear, striving to provide as much peace of mind as possible to potential buyers.
